STAGED READINGS

November
The Importance of Being Earnest Part Deux: Thoroughly Stupid Things by Montserrat Mendez. Directed by Megan Demarest. As the name would imply, this is a delightfully fun and witty sequel to Oscar Wilde’s classic play. Audiences will revisit their favorite characters from the original and meet two new characters who will add excitement, intrigue, and even more humor to the mix. With 2 drag queens, 1 drag king, two musical numbers, a sword fight, and even more missing children, you won’t want to miss this play that Backstage magazine called “A comic masterwork”. Winner of The Excellence in Playwrighting Award at the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival. Performance date is November 11.

Eating Richard Parker by Marisa Valent.  Directed by Marisa Valent. Clystine Kirschbaum is not under arrest. Detectives Stewart and Newton are only interested in learning about the events that led to the violent death of Clystine’s grandmother, Odette. Clystine however, does not want to talk about her family; she only wants to discuss a strange shipwreck from 1884 and the death of a young cabin boy, Richard Parker. While the detectives try to piece together the timeline leading up to Odette’s death and the desperate situation Clystine’s teenage daughter Allison has found herself in, Clystine can only bring herself to talk to them about the Law of the Sea and what happened after The Mignonette sank. Eating Richard Parker, is a story about four generations of women, a desperate mother trying to break a cycle of trauma and abuse, and the question: what is justified in the name of survival?
