A summer moon shone high above,
The night was warm and clear.
From far away a hooting Owl
Was calling its mate so dear.
But other things were heard that night,
And plainly, as if t’were day,
We know quite well what happened there,
From the sounds that came our way.
A love scene, tender, floated to our ears,
Things would happen soon,
But then, what less could we expect,
With a man, a maid and a moon.
“Your eyes are shining pools of love.
Your lips, twin petals rare.
Your hair is spid’ry threads of gold,
Darling, I’ll always care.”
And then from sounds that drifted by
We know that she was won.
We should have left but we lingered on
To hear what would be done.
Their sighs were short, their kisses long,
Such love is universal.
Alas! Just then a voice yelled: “Cut.
Tomorrow at nine, rehearsal.”
